What you need to know to Prep Senior Session.
What to Wear & How to Prepare for Your Senior Session
Confidence starts before you step in front of the camera
Your senior session is more than just taking pictures—it’s about celebrating who you are in this season of life. The outfits you wear, the way you prepare, and the personal touches you bring all play a huge role in creating images that feel authentic, confident, and timeless.
Start With 1–4 Outfits (Depending on Your Senior Package)
Every senior session is a little different, and the number of outfits you’ll bring depends on your specific Senior Package. Most sessions include 1 to 4 outfits, allowing us to capture a variety of looks while keeping the session relaxed and enjoyable.
I always tell my Seniors this: quality over quantity. A few well-planned outfits will photograph far better than rushing through too many changes.
When planning your outfits, think in categories:
- One classic/timeless look
- One casual/everyday look
- One dressy or bold look
- One activity, uniform, or themed look (optional)
This mix gives your gallery variety while still feeling cohesive and true to you.
What Colors Photograph Best?
Solid colors are your best friend. They keep the focus on you and won’t distract from your face or expressions.
Great color choices:
- Neutrals: cream, tan, beige, gray
- Jewel tones: emerald, burgundy, navy, rust
- Soft tones: sage, dusty blue, blush
Try to avoid:
- Neon colors
- Large logos or graphics
- Tiny patterns that can distract or date your photos
- Matching head-to-toe black (unless styled intentionally)
Fit Matters More Than Trends
The most important rule: wear clothes that fit you well.
If you’re constantly adjusting straps, pulling fabric, or worried about how something looks—those feelings will show in photos. Choose outfits that:
- You feel confident standing and sitting in
- Allow you to move naturally
- Don’t require constant fixing
Layers & Texture = Visual Interest
Layers add depth and variety without needing a full outfit change.
Think:
- Denim jackets
- Cardigans
- Flannels
- Blazers
- Vests
Textures like lace, knits, denim, and leather photograph beautifully and add richness to your images.
Shoes & Accessories: Don’t Forget Them
Shoes matter—even if they’re not always the focus.
Bring:
- Clean sneakers
- Boots
- Sandals or dress shoes that match your outfit vibe
Accessories should enhance your look, not overpower it:
Simple jewelry:
- Hats
- Belts
- Watches
- Hair accessories
When in doubt: less is more.
Yes—You Can Change Outfits On Site

Personalizing Your Session to Fit You

Your session will be guided to fit you. I’ll help with posing, movement, and direction every step of the way so you never feel awkward or unsure.
This is a collaboration—and my goal is for you to walk away saying, “That actually felt fun.”
