Mini Session or Full Session?

If you’ve ever booked a photo session (or are thinking about it), you’ve probably seen two popular options: Mini Sessions and Full Sessions. While both are great, they serve very different purposes. Knowing the difference can help you choose the option that fits your needs, your vision, and your budget.

As a photographer, I offer both because every family, senior, and athlete is different — and one size does not fit all.

What Is a Mini Session?

A Mini Session is a shorter, simplified photo session offered on select dates throughout the year. These are usually scheduled back-to-back on a specific day and are designed to be quick, fun, and efficient.

Mini Sessions are great for:

  • Seasonal photos (Christmas, fall, Valentine’s, etc.)
  • Quick updates for growing kids
  • Families who want just a few images
  • Clients who love a themed setup
  • Budget-friendly options

What to expect from a Mini Session:

  • Shorter session time (usually 10–20 minutes)
  • One location or backdrop
  • Limited number of images
  • Little to no customization
  • Pre-set date and time

Mini sessions are perfect when you want something simple, fast, and fun.

What Is a Full Session?

A Full Session is a completely customized photography experience. These sessions allow more time, flexibility, and personalization — making them ideal for milestone moments and once-in-a-lifetime memories.

Full Sessions are great for:

  • Senior portraits
  • Families who want variety
  • Sports and banner sessions
  • Multiple outfits or locations
  • Creative, personalized images

What to expect from a Full Session:

  • Longer session time
  • Flexibility with locations
  • Time for outfit changes
  • More posing guidance
  • A wider variety of images
  • A relaxed, unrushed experience

Full sessions are ideal when you want meaningful, detailed, and unique images that truly reflect personality and style.

Key Differences at a Glance

Mini Sessions

  1. Short & sweet
  2. Limited availability
  3. Lower investment
  4. Perfect for seasonal updates

Full Sessions

  1. Fully customized
  2. Flexible scheduling
  3. More images & variety
  4. Best for milestones

Which One Should You Choose?

Ask yourself these questions:

  1. Do I want quick and simple, or creative and personalized?
  2. Is this a milestone moment (senior year, sports season, family memories)?
  3. Do I want multiple outfits or locations?
  4. Am I okay with limited images, or do I want a full gallery?

If you’re ever unsure, I’m always happy to help guide you toward the best option for your needs.

A Note About Availability

Mini sessions are offered only a few times a year and tend to fill quickly. Full sessions are scheduled individually and offer more flexibility with dates and planning.

If you see a mini session that fits your vision — grab it fast! If you want something more personal and relaxed, a full session is the way to go.
